The event in Cincinnati to commemorate Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. will be held on Monday, January 18, but this year will be very different.

"For us, there are two aspects to how you commemorate the king and ensure that his legacy continues while ensuring that you protect the safety of the people," Erica King-Betts said.

This is 46

Cincinnati annual MLK day. King-Betts is a member of the MLK alliance, which sponsors the city plan. This year, the coronavirus pandemic has brought many challenges.

Kim Bates said: "The coronavirus pandemic has challenged our creativity and changed how we safely bring traditional parades and shows into the Cincinnati community."

The morning program sponsored by the National Mass Transit Railway Freedom Center will be performed together with the afternoon program usually held in the concert hall. It is a virtual event.

Christopher Miller of the Liberty Center said the center will have to be pivoted to ensure safety and maintain safety guidelines.

Miller said: "We will not be open to the public that day and will be responsible for our current pandemic."

For safety reasons, the annual King’s Day passing through the city center will also be refreshed.

This year, in addition to the walking parade, the MLK Memorial Parade will also include a racing team and will be held at the National Underground Railroad Freedom Center at 10:30 in the morning. Participants' cars will follow the parade along a designated route in downtown Cincinnati. The Rosa Park Bus on the subway will provide limited seating.
