The cinema chain said that the closure of El Con Cinema is temporary due to the continuous delay of film release dates.

Theater officials announced in a letter to customers earlier this week that they had temporarily closed the location of its Elcon Shopping Center and merged with its sister cinema in Park Plaza.

On the occasion of the debut of 5870 E. Broadway, the state and county's COVID-19 pandemic hit new highs in the number of confirmed cases, hospitalizations and deaths.

But Cinemark officials said that the biggest obstacle in the Tucson operation actually came from the pandemic Hollywood. Tinseltown did not release enough new movies to fill Cinemark's two giant cinemas.

The theater official had no other comment.

Hollywood blocked the release of most of its new films in 2020, when theaters across the country were closed for several months due to the coronavirus pandemic. When the cinema reopened in late spring and early summer last year, some new films were released, but filmmakers were reluctant to release their summer and fall blockbusters because they were worried that the epidemic would discourage audiences.

According to the "Hollywood Report", "Wonder Woman 1984" was one of the first movies to be released on HBO on the same day that it was released in theaters in December last year, prompting thousands of new HBO subscriptions.

The upcoming double crown titles include the epic monster showdown in May, "Godzilla vs. King Kong." The October science fiction thriller "Dune"; according to reports, the highly anticipated "Matrix 4" will be released around Christmas in December.

.

At the same time, Cinemark’s Century Gateway 12 on North Kolb Avenue is still closed, and nearly half of the movies played on the 12 screens of the Cinemark’s Century Theatre in Oro Valley Market are so-called "Comeback Classics." (In some cases it is a safe haven movie) It has not been shown in theaters for many years. For example, this week’s lineup includes the 2014 historical drama "Selma" and the 2004 Will Ferrell comedy "Host".
