The Jacksonville First Baptist Church applied for permission from the city to renovate the Lindsay Memorial on its downtown campus at an estimated cost of $1 million.

Williams & Rowe Co. Inc. is listed as a contractor. Novus Architects of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina is an architect

The plan says that the scope of work includes the renovation of the existing shelter and the backyard choir rehearsal area.

This work included reconfiguration of the platform, replacement of seats, completion and modification of the sound booth area and the ceiling of the elevated main shelter. The project includes a new choir loft, LCD screens and audiovisual equipment upgrades.

Pew seats will be installed on the main floor of the shelter to replace theater seats. The plan shows that the existing 1,089 occupants will be reduced to 915.

In August, the First Baptist Church said that it would not implement a plan to sell and integrate most of the urban campuses, but to solve water seepage, HVAC and other infrastructure problems in the Lindsay Memorial Auditorium.

Heath Lambert, the first senior pastor of the Baptist Church, announced the decision of the church leadership during a meeting with the congregation in the city hall on August 2.

Instead, the ministry and operations of the First Baptist Church will be located in the Lindsay Memorial Auditorium. Lambert said a small group of members have pledged "millions of dollars" to repair water infiltration, HVAC and other infrastructure problems in the auditorium.

The First Baptist Church has been raising funds for members of the Lindsay Memorial Auditorium Renovation Project.
