The Kelowna Community Theatre is making changes to its fee structure to help the local arts community hurt by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Theater manager Caroline Ivey proposed a proposal on Monday that would reduce current rents so that smaller seating activities can take place when she expects the facility to restart very slowly.

The reopened frame and rental structure are divided into four stages, from only performers and staff to seats for up to 50 people, accounting for 50% of the seats, and finally unlimited entry.

Ivey said: "For our arts, cultural and heritage organizations, success is vital to this city. We have a responsibility to adjust policies and procedures when necessary to ensure that we can provide sufficient support to enable them to The challenging times are flourishing.".

"The temporary main performance rate fee will be calculated using a sliding ratio formula, which allows the rate to be adjusted to the number of spectators allowed in accordance with the instructions of the provincial health officials."

Ivey said that the reopening formula will take the rehearsal rate for each user category and increase the rate for each seat determined in it.

"The calculation method is to divide the current performance rental rate for each category by the number of seats available in the auditorium (853), and then multiply by the number of available seats.

"We believe that adjustments to the cost of major performances will enable more local groups to effectively adjust their performances in accordance with COVID safety protocols and procedures without worrying about losing revenue."

She said the feedback from the art world has been positive.
