It has been another strong year for office and custom furniture manufacturers, and most companies have seen considerable sales growth.

Overall, in 2019, sales of the FDMC 300 group of companies increased by 4.5% to reach 57.171 billion US dollars.

This group of cabinets, wood products, furniture and store fixture manufacturers achieved sales growth for the eighth consecutive year in the just-completed year 2019. Among the largest offices and contract manufacturers, the order of the 10 largest companies in this market segment has not changed.

Teknion produces office chairs, lockers, desks, office systems, conference tables, bookcases, sofas, upholstered chairs and building wall systems. We estimate annual sales of 500 million US dollars.

Last year, sales increased sharply again, reaching $450 billion last year. The Indiana company produces desks, archives/storage, conference tables, office chairs, office chairs; healthcare, education, and hospitality furniture. The company has manufacturing facilities in Huntingburg, Indiana; Huntington Beach, California; Lichfield, Kentucky; and Archidale, North Carolina.

According to Smith Leonard's "Furniture Insights" survey of residential furniture manufacturers and distributors, the year-end figures for residential furniture orders in 2019 showed a decline of 2% and a slight increase in shipments. An estimated 71% of survey respondents reported low orders throughout 2019.

One year ago, in 2018, new orders were reported to have increased by 6%. Compared with the same period last year, new furniture orders in December 2019 increased by 4%.
