The South Bend-Morris Performing Arts Center in Indiana has been Michigan’s mid-stream tay pillar for nearly a decade. The iconic theater is closely related to the memories of many people.

"Mary and I have been married for nearly 50 years, so for most of those 50 years, we have been attending Broadway plays, concerts and other events in Morris. It has become a vital part of our lives. "Greg Downes, co-chair of the Morris Celebration Committee, said.

Greg and Mary Downes, who have long been supporters of the community, decided to love the theater and worked hand in hand with South Bend Venues Park and Art Gallery to give the theater the support it deserves as it approaches the 100th floor

year.

Downs said: “The mayor and Aaron Perri came to us about six months ago and asked us to co-chair the committee to celebrate Morris’s 100th birthday.”

Aaron Perri, Executive Director of Venue Parks and Arts, said that they hope to hold celebrations throughout the city to commemorate this timed and significant milestone. However, this celebration will be more than a one-day event!

The promise to celebrate the Morris Music Festival will continue, and the theater will eventually be expanded in a planned way and will raise funds for youth art programs in the community in the future.

"This is the center of art. I think what we have to do to celebrate the centenary is to absolutely ensure that in the next 100 years, art in South Bend and the entire region will be alive." Downs said.

In preparation for the project, Downes gathered a group of community members to help them realize their vision for Morris!

"We went out to recruit. Now there are as many as 50 employees. All the volunteers in the community have agreed to join us to tackle this exciting challenge together! Once we have the basics, we will expand this group to surrounding counties And hope to make it a truly regional event." Downs said.

The plan is still in its infancy. There is no set date for the expansion or when the celebration itself will be held.
