The company will occupy nearly 200,000 square feet of brownfield site at No. 26555 Northwest Expressway and says it has "room for growth." This mid-century modern building has been vacant since 2015 and is located at the corner of Lahser Road and John C. Lodge Freeway.

"It is important to us to maintain close contact with our automotive customers, but it is equally important to ease the transition of employees," said Gene Spektor, Marelli's senior vice president of North American sales and business development. "Our new location will have the least impact on commuting and will provide employees with a modern, open and collaborative working environment."

The company will bring the local team together as "a key step in the Marelli integration process." In May 2019, Magneti Marelli and Calsonic Kansei formed Marelli, which created one of the world's largest global independent auto parts suppliers.

Marelli CEO Beda Bolzenius said in a recent interview: “If we want to grow, we have to cross-selling, we have to have the right synergy, then the integration of the two companies Is the most important.” The company believes that integrating the team into one place in the metropolitan Detroit will naturally increase efficiency and collaboration.

The three-story building is undergoing extensive renovation and will be equipped with a modern work area that can accommodate nearly 500 employees, 75 meeting rooms, auditoriums, cafeterias, fitness rooms and a large number of indoor/outdoor meeting spaces. Approximately 100,000 square feet will be used for testing and laboratory equipment to support R&D activities in the company's automotive lighting, electronics, exhaust, interior, powertrain, driving dynamics and thermal solutions business units.

Marelli worked closely with the City of Southfield and Michigan Economic Development Corporation in site selection.

Marelli currently has two locations in Auburn Hills, Michigan and one location in Farmington Hills, Michigan. The company plans to gradually relocate from the end of 2020, and is expected to move in by March 2021.
