New Cumberland, Pennsylvania (WHTM)-The landmark West Coast Theater in Cumberland County is undergoing renovations.

Once completed, the theater will show movies, but it will also be a venue for live performances, concerts and other community events.

The non-profit organization Friends of the West Shore (Friends of the West Shore) is behind the project. The organization was established shortly after the theater closed in 2018. Community members don’t want to see buildings vacant.

A video about the appearance of the theater after its renovation was published on the Friends of West Bund website. The goal is to keep the original theme of the theater, but to update it.

The theater will accommodate 250 people, restaurant-style booths, and standing seating areas with high tables. The building is also getting new HVAC systems and electrical engineering.

The project may be completed before November 2020.

The West Shore Theatre was built in 1939 and opened in 1940. Due to slow ticket sales, its previous owner closed the theater in 2018.
