Dutch designer Studio Lancelot has created a series of schools
encourage
Change classroom seats frequently.
This set of furniture is called "Activity Classroom" and includes four stools specially designed for elementary schools. Each stool has a different structure and supports multiple sitting positions.
These diverse forms encourage children to change posture regularly throughout the day to increase their "muscle diversity" and attention level.
The chair has been shortlisted
of
2020.
"Research after research shows that spending more time sitting in a traditional chair poses serious health risks,"
, The founder of Studio Lancelot.
"From the young age, the deep habit of sitting in a chair has inspired people to design healthy cushion solutions."
He continued: "In order to support concentration, the body's autonomous and active postures are used to mobilize muscle groups to become active and maintain physical vitality."
"The design of each stool must include at least four different postures, because frequent changes in other sitting postures will increase the mobility of the muscles, and these muscles would not be used on a regular chair."
Each seat design focuses on balance-using a stool requires active effort, which will eventually fatigue certain muscles and encourage natural postural changes to activate different muscles.
Lancelot said it is not easy to persuade people to develop new seating habits, but they are "critical" for health and well-being.
He explained: "It is important to reconsider sitting posture, but changing sitting posture means changing habits." "Considering the inertia of traditional chair sitting posture, this is a serious challenge."
The designer continued: "The transition to a new sitting posture will lead to cultural and psychological discomfort and practical opposition." "Western adult users find it difficult or even hate to get rid of their lifetime sitting posture."
"Obviously, design has a great influence on the daily activities that shape the human body, and therefore has social importance in affecting the health and well-being of users."
He concluded: “Therefore, it is especially important for the design discipline to reconsider sitting posture and the use of chairs.”
Lancelot is currently working with the design team to study how design can contribute to a healthier classroom

The designer and his team are conducting research on third-grade students-Lancelot describes this age group as "mentally and physically very flexible, and most receptive to changes in habitual behavior."

Lancelot is not the only designer who rethinks children’s classroom seats to improve posture and concentration – a graduate of Kingston College of Art
The seat has a narrow, curved body, similar to the shape of a saddle, and encourages children to sit upright.
