A former manufacturing and warehouse facility across the street from East Valley High School in Redlands is now scheduled to become an online auto auction, and nearby residents are not satisfied.

Neighbors of the project at the northeast corner of Mentone Opal and East Colton Avenue were a little worried when they were worried that their so-called classification work was starting to become dusty. Residents said they were worried about the impact of the project on traffic and air quality.

Tony Simpson, chairman of the Sun Chase Homeowners Association, represents more than 200 neighboring property owners. He said the homeowner along Beryl Avenue on the east side of the site did not remember receiving the notice.

From the afternoon of Thursday, January 21, 2021, the grading work began on a clearing opposite the Redlands East Valley High School on E. Colton Avenue between Opal and Beryl Avenues. County documents show that manufacturing and warehouse operations at the site have been approved, while residents said it was a car auction, and the work on the site has been dusting. Simpson wrote in an email: "Our concern is that the garbage dump near HOA and REV high schools has never been approved as HOA."

He said he had filed a complaint with San Bernardino County.

County spokesperson David Wert (David Wert) said in an email that “owners of surrounding properties” have been notified “as required by law”.

Wert added: “The county was told that there will be no live auctions on the website. The vehicles will be stored on the website and shipped to buyers.”

According to documents from the counties, a furniture manufacturer had been operating on the plot for many years until around 2013. In 2015, the county approved the owner's request to change the land use to residential and divide the property into 131 lots.

In 2018, the county planning committee and the board of supervisors approved a license to re-establish manufacturing and warehouse operations on the property.

The County Land Use Services Department approved a request to change the plan in 2020, allowing auction companies to replace existing buildings with new offices.

In 2018, a representative of HOA expressed concern about noise, truck traffic and operating hours at a public hearing, and for this reason the planning committee restricted outdoor activities to daylight hours.

Wilt said this situation still exists.
